The Paper Cranes

There was once a guy who was very much in love with a girl.
This romantic guy folded 1,000 pieces of paper cranes as a gift to his girl. Although, at that time he was just a clerk in his company, they were very happy together.

Then, one day, the girl told him she was going to Paris and will never come back. She also told him that she cannot visualize any future for the both of them here, so it would be better for each to go their own ways... heartbroken, the guy agreed.

The guy worked hard day and night, slogging his body and mind to forget the girl and make something out of himself. Finally with all these hard work and with the help of friends, this guy managed to set up his own company...

One rainy day, while this guy was driving, he saw an elderly couple sharing an umbrella in the rain walking towards some destination. Even with the umbrella, they were still drenched. It didn't take him long to realize that those were his ex-girlfriend's parents. He drove the car slowly beside the couple, wanting them to spot him in his luxury sedan. He wanted them to know that he wasn't the same poor guy anymore. He now had his own company, car, condo, etc. He had made it in life!

The old couple was walking towards the cemetary. The guy got out of his car and followed them. There he saw the couple stop at a grave and there was a photograph of the girl smiling sweetly as ever at him on the tombstone. His precious paper cranes has been put in a bottle and was placed beside her tomb.

Her parents saw him. He walked over slowly and asked them what had happened. They told him that the girl did not leave for France at all. She was sick with cancer. In her heart, she had believed that he will make it someday, but she did not want her illness to be an obstacle. Therefore she had decided to leave him.

She had wanted her parents to put his paper cranes on her grave. She was hoping that if the day comes when fate brings him to her grave, he can take some of those back with him. The guy wept ...the worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside them, knowing you can't have them and will never see them again.
